Committee Activities
The Japanese Association for Dental Science has established permanent committees to deliberate on matters permanently necessary for the administration of the Association, and also established temporary committees for the purpose of deliberating on matters deemed especially necessary on an extraordinary basis by the President of the Japanese Association for Dental Science, thereby contributing to the advancement and development of science and technology related to dentistry.
Permanent Committees
Editorial Committee of the Journal of the Japanese Association for Dental Science
This committee reviews the planning and editing of the Journal of the Japanese Association for Dental Science, the official Japanese-language journal of the Japanese Association for Dental Science.
This online journal, published annually in March, is designed to provide must-read content and information on current issues for both members of the Dental Association and those of JADS specialized and authorized branch organizations.
JDSR Editorial Committee
The English Journal Editorial Committee is a committee that reviews the planning and editing of The Japanese Dental Science Review (JDSR), an official English-language journal jointly published by the Japanese Association for Dental Science and the Japan Dental Association.
The JDSR is an online journal published annually in December, focusing on review articles by internationally active researchers.
Academic Dental Terminology Committee
The Academic Dental Terminology Committee is a committee that examines the revision and publication of scientific dental terminology in response to changes in social conditions and epidemic structure in Japan, as well as to current dental care, which continues to progress and develop.
Academic Research Committee
The Academic Research Committee is a committee that mainly plans and holds “Gatherings to Promote Comprehensive Research Focusing on Dentistry” and plans and promotes “Project Research Programs.”
The “Gathering” is a forum for exchange with interdisciplinary fields, including clinical studies and academic-industry cooperation, with the aim of further developing dentistry, and is a project that provides a forum for researchers with a wide range of ideas to present their work and freely exchange opinions with the participants.
The “Project Research Programs” are publicly solicited, competitively funded projects that aim to rapidly introduce advances and developments in dentistry and medical science into the field of dental science in order to establish and provide an academic basis for dental care.
Qualification Review Committee for Specialized Organizations and Authorized Branch Organizations
The Qualification Review Committee for specialized organizations and authorized branch organizations shall review the qualifications of each association that applies for membership in a specialized organization or registration in an authorized branch organization in accordance with the respective approval criteria.
The Committee also reviews the renewal of qualifications every five years from the time of approval for membership (registration) in a specialized organization and authorized branch organization or for renewal of qualifications.
Social Insurance Dental Council
The Social Insurance Dental Council proposes the ideal form of socially insured medical care based on academic evidence and examines appropriate reimbursement.
Mainly in preparation for the next revision of reimbursement, the Council compiles medical technology evaluation proposals and reports to be submitted to the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare regarding technologies in dentistry that should be newly covered by insurance or that may require a review of their evaluation. In addition, the Council also holds various training sessions on dental technology to deepen the understanding of all parties concerned.
Research Ethics Review Board
The Research Ethics Review Board is a board that conducts research ethics reviews of research applications from the Japan Dental Association and related organizations with the aim of ensuring ethical considerations in clinical and epidemiological research involving direct human subjects in accordance with the intent of the Declaration of Helsinki and the “Ethical Guidelines for Life Sciences and Medical Research Involving Human Subjects” set forth by the government.
COI Review Board
The COI Review Board is a board that reviews conflicts of interest for research applied for by the Japan Dental Association and related organizations for the purpose of formulating and complying with conflict of interest guidelines to appropriately manage conflicts of interest for researchers from the perspective of ensuring the fairness and reliability of research.
Temporary committees
Priority Research Committee
The Priority Research Committee examines research themes that the Association's Executive Committee takes the initiative in carrying out. Most recently, the committee formulated a “Dental Innovation Roadmap to 2040,” which is the most important issue for the Association, and is examining ways to effectively communicate it to society through various means of publicity. The committee is also studying the content of exhibits that implement the roadmap in preparation for participation in the 2025 World Exposition in Japan (Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan).
Dental Clinical Practice Guideline Library Council
The Dental Clinical Practice Guideline Library Council is responsible for the management and operation of the “Dental Clinical Practice Guideline Library,” a database of clinical practice support information, such as clinical practice guidelines and treatment guidelines in the dental and oral fields, created by JADS specialized organizations and authorized branch organizations, and published on the website of the Association in cooperation with Minds (EBM promotion project of the Japan Council for Quality Health Care). In addition, the Council provides support for the development of practice guidelines in JADS specialized organizations and authorized branch organizations and holds workshops for guideline development.
New Dental Care Provision Promotion Committee
The New Dental Care Provision Promotion Committee is studying the need for community-supported multifunctional dental clinics, or so-called 1.5 dental institutions (clinics), by collecting a great deal of information that contributes to this concept in various regions, in order to present a wide range of specific individual cases and concepts, including management and operation aspects.
Compliance Survey and Dissemination Committee
The Compliance Survey and Dissemination Committee aims to position compliance clearly to all parties involved in dental care and to dental institutions. The Committee collects information on compliance in the medical field, organizes problematic cases especially in dentistry, and examines compliance issues that all dental professionals should learn in order to compile as a curriculum.
Awards Council
The Awards Council examines and selects candidates recommended by the specialized organizations, authorized branch organizations, dental universities (dental schools), and Japan Dental Association for Japanese Association for Dental Science President's Award, the highest award of the Association.

A glossary of academic terms in dentistry corresponding to the changes in social conditions and epidemic structure in Japan, as well as to the current dental care that continues to progress and develop.
The Scientific Meeting of the Japanese Association for Dental Science
The Japanese Association for Dental Science holds a scientific meeting once every four years, in principle, for the purpose of comprehensively disseminating and developing the results of research in dentistry and clinical technology. The first scientific meeting was held in 1949, and as of 2024, the number of meetings has been held 24 times. The 25th scientific meeting is scheduled to be held in 2025.
